OUR MISSION
GMAC Film’s mission is to empower young people, emerging film talent and independent filmmakers by enabling them to acquire the skills, knowledge, confidence and resources to realise their ambitions in film. GMAC Film develops talent from all backgrounds – including people from communities currently under-represented in the media industries – and creates open access points for them to watch, make and explore film.
GMAC Film is a registered charity and all income goes towards our work with young people and the independent filmmaking community. We are a leading member of Film Access Scotland and Screen Training Scotland (STS), linking opportunities, identifying gaps and collaborating on new work throughout Scotland.
Established in 1982 as Glasgow Film & Video Workshop, with the purpose of widening access and offering low cost facilities and equipment, we aimed to enable a greater diversity of people to make films. This, in spite of the changing patterns of funding and outreach, remains our core purpose today.
In 2009 GMAC Film moved from its premises in Albion Street to purpose built studios on the 5th Floor at Trongate 103 where we hire out office space, a Training Suite, and a Screening Room. We also host film & TV productions in our large production office. With most of our community projects run in the same space, the 5th floor is a vibrant and inspiring Creative Hub for anyone interested in film.
GMAC Film is run by a dedicated team of staff members, Board of Directors and informed by our Youth Team.
